27 Feb 2023

Lei Cheng, aged 37 years, is the owner of China Square Mall Kenya. The Mall opened its doors in 2023 and immediately went viral.
The owner of the Mall [Lei Cheng] is reported to have spent over Ksh1 billion to set up the mall along Thika Road.
Ffew days into trading,he was reporting Ksh10 million per day!!

Lei Cheng had employed over 300 workers and the mall was already attracting Taxi cars and banks which were ready to serve customers.

Its items were priced lower than any other place in Kenya forcing traders in Nyamakima and Kamukunji to start protesting for fear of being edged out of business.
This resulted in Trade CS Moses Kuria to close the mall immediately.

Lei Cheng had vowed to continue operating but threats and intimidation from government forced him to close the mall immediately.

What kenyans have learnt from the saga is that we [kenyans] are being exploited by local traders.
Lei Cheng ships the items to kenya, paay ALL taxes and still sell the items at much much lower price than our local traders.
He had brought health competition which was to reduce prices of commodities across the industry.
